SCD in Taiwan 2009

Well thought I'd update everyone on what I'm doing in Taiwan for the past week. I got the chance to see the future of automated polishing with a robot that buffs paint as well as the future of paint care. The latter is what I'm going to be talking about right now as this is a concept that will blow your mind. It's called Nanoskin and was developed in the Taiwan equivalent of Cal Tech, ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) a government run research center.

http://www.itri.org.tw/eng/

Nanoskin consists of products that utilize nanotechnology..a buzz word popular a few years ago that really did nothing but promise a bunch of meaningless jargon. What Nanoskin does for car owners and detailers alike is a spray on coating that protects better than any wax as it hardens the paint protecting it from scratches and does this without affecting the reflective properties of the paint. It's not a permanent coating as it wears away in a years time, and it can be touched up using a companion nano booster wax type product.

So in essence it works like a wax, but offers superior protection. What does this mean to us? Think about the last car you polished with ultra soft paint that marred when you wiped the wax off. With Nanoskin, that could be a thing of the past. Or what about removing the burden of pristine maintenance by the owner after your work is done polishing? Let them use the car wash for maintenance.

The process is simple. You polish the paint as usual but instead of finishing using yoiur favorite wax, apply the two part Nano system: 1.) Nano Carnauba wax 2.) Nano Diamond Protective Shield

The NDPS combo is sprayed on with a paint spray gun and takes about 20 minutes for application. No masking is required as the coating benefits all vehicle components--paint, wheels, plastics, and glass.

Take a look at how water beads on a Nano treated car.

In visiting the research laboratory, I witnessed the latest version that's designed for interior use as demoed on this shoe. Water is being dropped onto the shoe and it just bounces off.

Demonstrating Prima at a local detail shop as they compared to their current Meguiar's polishes #83 and #80.

Had to use this Ryobi polisher..I kind of liked it...might have to add one to my tool set.

I also hosted an application video as seen here.

Got lots more to show, but that's it for now.

Richard

Richard when will this product be ready for the US? Look like a very good investment .

Re: SCD in Taiwan 2009

Actual production use may not be for awhile..still have some major regulation hurdles to overcome, however that doesn't mean that it won't be available on a limited basis. My MINI is being repainted so that it can look pristine before the Nano treatment.

What I haven't yet shown is that we abused the paint pretty good with a blow torch to test heat durability and a cigarette lighter end that was smashed at full arm stroke like swinging a tennis racket into the paint, but using the end of a cigarette lighter. This resulted in a lot of deep looking scratches that would surely needed to be wetsanded out....yet were rubbed away with a mf towel. That was pretty impressive espeically considering the coating hadn't cured for the full 48 hours--only 30 minutes while doing the filming.

This stuff looks cool, almost like a product bridging the gap between normal waxes and spraying an extra layer of clearcoat on the car. I can't wait to learn more. I also assume that this stuff is going to have to fight an uphill battle with EagleOne's Nanowax that seems to be more of just use of the Nano buzzword.
