Re: Windows Powered Arcade Games?? BSOD!
Thanks, but I am already well aware of Linux.
The truth is that Linux, Unix, Irix, AIX, Solaris, and Variants of BSD (FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, DarwinBSD).. are all Posix compliant OS Kernels little more. BSD and Linux are especially noteworthy as they are released under the GNU and BSD license respectively. Essentially, these Kernels run the GNU Operating System, which is a recreation of all of the components that make Unix tick. You may wish to watch Revolution OS, and interesting DVD. Richard Stallman is the creator of the free software movement, which is free as in source code provided, unequivocally free speech for software. This gives anyone the ability to change their own software or pay someone else to do it.
I have been using a plethora of operating systems for years now. At work I support systems running mostly Windows Server 2003 Enterprise with Active Directory, and Novell Netware 6.5 systems, and additionally some systems running Novell Open Enterprise Server. At home I have a personal file/print server on my LAN, which is also serving as a proxy for Internet caching/filtering, and email SMTP server/filter. A company a friend and I own (nosolution.net ==We design and create custom IT solutions for company processes and business procedures) is hosted on our own OpenBSD server. My personal Desktop OS of choice is Linux. I like Ubuntu, Slackware, Debian, and Gentoo, with Ubuntu being my personal favorite.
I have been running Linux as my main OS at home since 2003, but it was roughly 2005 at which time I completely removed myself from the Windows Crutch. I must say that I am equally comfortable in Linux and Windows (which I use at work as my main OS). I own a copy of Vista, but really only use it to familiarize myself because there will become a point when the world expects me to know every nuance and its schema and implementation inside and out. I find myself using XP at home too, but only when working on a project for nosolution.net for a company with a specific project requirement or preference that the solution be Microsoft based.
Here are some of the screenshots of my Ubuntu Setup:
